Annota privacy policy

Annota is made by Papermap Labs. It doesn’t collect your data. Everything you make with it stays in your browser, on your computer. There are no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and nothing is sold or shared.

What Annota keeps, and where

Annota saves your notes, your drawings on pages and PDFs, the text and snapshots you collect, and your settings in your browser’s storage for extensions, on your computer. It also keeps copies of the last few PDFs you opened in its viewer there, so they open again quickly. None of this is sent anywhere. Removing Annota from your browser deletes all of it.

If you back up or share a lesson, Annota saves a file on your computer. Where that file goes next is up to you.

Pages you use it on

Annota works on a page only after you turn it on there, with its icon, its keyboard shortcut or its right-click menu. It reads that page to draw on it and to collect what you select, and what it collects stays on your computer.

When Annota uses the internet

• PDFs. When you open a PDF in Annota’s viewer, Annota loads it from the address it came from, as your browser would.
• YouTube clips. When you collect a clip of a YouTube video or put one in a note, its preview picture loads from YouTube’s image server (ytimg.com), and the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube’s own privacy policy covers these.
• Links you click in your notes open in your browser as usual.

Annota doesn’t connect to anything else.

Annota Pro

Annota is free while it’s in beta. When Annota Pro is available, buying it will go through our payment provider, and Annota will check your licence with them. This policy will be updated to say exactly what that sends before it happens.

Children

Annota doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.
